GUMBOOT DANCERS
The Gumboots dancing came about in the early 1900’s when miners performed these dances at the Johannesburg gold mines. This dance is a commutation of rhythm, created by hitting the “Gum Boots” (Water boots), and traditional dances.
During performances guests are encouraged to take part in these dances and this normally leads to big fun and laughter! The speed and rhythm these dancers perform at is impressive, and not that easy to duplicate if your rhythm is judged by the speed of working a PC!
The Mandela Village youth has formed the Siyakwela Gumboot Dancers is based in Mandela Village and perform during township tours and local events or can come to your venue of choice.
